There are many IT talks, conference and seminars held practically every week during the year. Only once a year, however, does the IT Management Association (ITMA) organize a seminar targeted at the highest level of IT leaders and decision makers in Singapore. The IT Best Practices (ITBP) Seminar is held to bring together CIOs, senior management and leading IT practitioners from government and industry to consider and think about areas crucial to the IT industry in Singapore. It is planned and organized by practicing IT leaders for practicing IT leaders and future IT leaders, thus ensuring a unique audience of senior IT leaders at the seminar.

This year’s seminar theme is ‘The “I” in CIO is for Innovation”. The focus is on how the CIO is often responsible for the strategic understanding of the potential of technology in an organization’s business, and is also often tasked to deliver those innovations. The greatest driver today for innovation in business and service is driven by changes in the digital continuum. This year, we look at several aspects of innovation, from how to create an innovation culture in an organization to how to consistently deliver the results of those innovations into the mainstream business. What are the threats that come from mainstream lines of business (the gorillas in the company) that naturally tend to crush the upstart new digital offerings?
