Delegates also had the opportunity to hear from a list of distinguished speakers including Chen Shao Peng\, Senior Vice President\, Lenovo\, Goh Chye Boon\, CEO\, Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City and Philip Heah\, Senior Director\, Next Generation Infrastructure\, IDA. \nThis year’s Workshop drew an unprecedented number of attendees with 100 delegates at the Singapore leg and more than half of them traveled to Beijing to attend the second leg. \nThe 23rd Chief Information Officer Workshop\, jointly organized by Accenture and the Information Technology Management Association (ITMA)\, is an annual gathering of the most senior CIOs from large private and public organizations in the region. Considered the de facto CIO forum\, many participants return year after year to benefit from the rich content and valuable networking opportunities. \nOver its 23 year history\, the CIO Workshop has gathered IT leaders in Singapore and the region to exchange views on the opportunities and challenges that has shaped the industry. Recent workshops in Beijing\, Taiwan\, Japan\, Korea and Hong Kong have provided wonderful backdrops for productive dialogues on key issues impacting the business and IT landscape. \nThe CIO Workshop is supported by a Board of Advisors (BOA) comprising the ITMA president and other prominent IT leaders and CIOs from various industries and private or public organizations. This select group of individuals establishes the focus of the workshop\, pinpoints issues to address and targets visionaries and industry leaders to speak to these subjects.

This unique venue provided a very Oriental setting for the finale event of the year. Rear Admiral Ronnie Tay\, CEO of Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore was the VIP guest for that night. About 100 participants attended the dinner. We would like to place on record our appreciation to the following sponsors who have helped to make this Dinner possible. They are Accenture\, PTC System\, NetApp\, Symantec and Lenovo. The audience was entertained by the Contortionist and Suzie Wong Showtime. The night was then rounded off by a very entertaining performance from Irene Ang.

More than 120 delegates had the opportunity to hear from compelling speakers from both the public and private sections. Key speakers at the Workshop in Singapore included: \nRADM(NS) Ronnie Tay – Chief Executive Officer\, Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore\nStephen Nunn – Global Managing Director\, Infrastructure Consulting\, Accenture\nChing Wei Hong – Group Chief Financial Officer\, Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation Ltd\nYam Ah Mee – Chief Executive Officer\, Land Transport Authority \nDelegates who extended their attendance over at the Taipei leg of the workshop not only heard from distinguished speakers such as Stan Shih who established the Acer Group and the Taiwan GCIO Dr Yu-Hsieh Sung\, they were also actively engaged in several interactive breakout sessions. \nBesides the content rich sessions\, a major draw for participants of the Workshop was the extensive opportunities to network among their peers. \nThe 22nd CIO Workshop was also made more memorable when Typhoon Morakat passed through Taipei. The strong winds and pouring rain certainly did not dampen the spirits of the participants. On the contrary\, the situation inadvertently reinforced the Workshop theme\, and has shown that there are still opportunities to be seized despite the challenges and uncertainties that may lie ahead.

Companies in Asia today face a slowing global economy\, rising costs and the ongoing financial crisis. Creating an agile business and infrastructure is essential to maintaining growth and minimizing risk. \nCompanies need to constantly re-evaluate business models\, emerging opportunities\, sustainable technologies\, communications and collaboration methods\, and find ways to better retain and attract top talent. Companies that excel in these areas will be the leaders in their markets and companies that fail to prepare for these shifts will be left trailing in the wake of fast-moving competitors. \nThe 14th Annual IT Best Practices (ITBP) Seminar\, organized by the IT Management Association\, is a forum that brings together C-levels\, senior business and technology executives and leading IT practitioners from different business domains to share IT management best practices and leadership views. \nThe seminar will share some of the emerging trends\, best practices and success stories in managing agile businesses in uncertain times. Topics include: \n\nThe changing CIO role – business or technology leader?\nShifting focus from maintaining IT to being a change agent and building business value\nBalancing cost pressure\, the need to grow\, and coping with shifting risks and volatile business environments\nPrinciples for adaptive and dynamic IT within an agile business (SOA\, SaaS\, virtualization)\nGreen IT – how being green will provide long term cost savings and improved perception by customers\nThe evolution in work – the new age of collaboration
